Les Femmes des Arcs-en-Ciel is a heartfelt tribute to the author and poet Ntozake Shangé who passed away in 2018. It is an exploration on the intersectionality of movement and poetry expanding on one of Ms. Shangé's most cherished artwork 'For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf'. The Salon Series will continue to explore an in-depth conversation of womanhood, culture, femininity, strength, and unity. Her choreopoems, one of which has been re-created multiple times by numerous authors and playwrights continue to highlight the essence of empowerment through multiculturalism and feminism. Within her poetry, Ms. Shangé utilizes her talent and platforms to share the heartwarming experiences of women of color, all from a different social, racial or economic background. Through these stories, we are able to experience hope in the face of adversity and challenge, the overcoming of life struggles.
Les Femmes Des Arcs-en-Ciel is chapter one of several more Salon Series focusing on re-creating Ms. Shangé's choreo-poems into choreo-dances. Join us on this new journey as we uncover the true beauty between poetry and movement, a pure embodiment of divine femininity and culture.
